Central Executing Unit (CEU)

The Government of Belize, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), has established the Central Executing Unit (CEU). The CEU presently operates under the Ministry of Finance. It is tasked with coordinating and implementing IDB loan-funded projects and serves as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders involved in each project. This centralized unit streamlines project management, ensuring timely and on-budget completion of all project phases.

The CEU oversees financial and operational aspects of the projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. It also maintains effective communication with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress.

With in-house expertise in procurement, finance, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, the CEU aims to reduce startup delays and learning curve challenges associated with IDB procedures. The unit is led by a director and includes a team of specialized staff to manage every component of the projects they undertake.

Presently, the CEU’s project portfolio includes the following five IDB loan-funded projects, totalling BZ$96 million:

  • Support Strengthening Public Expenditure Management in Belize
  • Digital Innovation to Boost Economic Development in Belize
  • Promoting Sustainable Growth in the Blue Economy
  • Trade and Investment Facilitation Program for Belize
  • Sustainable and Inclusive Belize
